I saw this article on npr.org and thought it was kinda fun. It's about the music you once couldn't get enough of but now never listen too. Dave Matthews Band and Tori Amos were at the top of the list. I never liked Tori with her piano-bench-crotch-grinding music, but man alive, was I a rabid DMB fan for 10 or so years. Every summer we would go to multiple concerts and I owned all of the live cds even though they were essentially all the same. Hell, we even went to see them at the free concert in San Francisco (a fantastic surprise from Lindy). After Everyday came out, my interest started to wane. I started listening to more indie rock and DMB was slowly left behind. Now I only listen to them when I'm too busy in the lab to skip their songs on my ipod. I've sold most of the live albums and imports (oh, yes, I had the imports, but thankfully I refrained from Boyd's solo album) and I haven't listened to any of the studio cds in years, the exception being their latest, which got a few spins in the car and was bought more out of habit than desire for new material.
Then there are the bands that I still listen to after all these years. The White Stripes, Pearl Jam, U2, A Tribe Called Quest, etc. They all get turned up when they come on at work. Go figure. I think DMB may have died out for me due to the horns and just plain and simple burn out. When you see a band year after year and hear the same set list with minor variations year after year, it gets old. Plus, the people still clinging on to Dave and Co. are about as douchey as you can get. The fans have always been frat boys and annoying girls, but they were easier to ignore when I was in my early twenties. Not so much now.
