After the USA lost their bid, I saw comments yesterday about Qatar not being such a great choice for the 2022 World Cup and it sounds like they're probably right. It gets to be ~120F in the months when the tournament happens. It's about the size of Connecticut. You can only get alcohol in hotels. Perfect for the fans! Anyway,
here's a brief rundown on it all.

They said the same negative things about South Africa but we know now they were all wrong. Many countries in the world have supported soccer as their top sport for decades but are never considered to be a potential host. In the past only a few big countries have been selected. It's good to see Fifa ending that monopoly and be bold enough to take chances. (lately 5 out of 6 of the hosts have been first timers or have not been a host in the last 60 years). US has already hosted the event in 94 when we did not even have a professional league (this is unheard of) and really soccer is not a major sport here. How many times you want to watch a big international game and find out that our sports channels would rather show a poker or tractor pull tournament. Beleive it or not It has taken Brazil 60 years before they got another World Cup. But most important don't forget these days it is very very difficult for foreigners to get visas to come to the US. Many fans around the world and even some players will be upset because for sure they will be denied entry into the US. I think this is an important factor in our latest failures to get the Olympics and the World cup. Many people feel they will not be allowed to come to the games.
it's not that we didn't get it, it's that qatar did. they bought the votes. why not australia? the fact is, they won't be able to safely play daytime games if it is 120F on the pitch. it's too hot for 90 minutes of good football. if you want guys walking up and down the field or passing out, then hooray for qatari matches. and as for south africa, they did a good job, but they also introduced that goddamn vuvuzela. haha.
Next time before the WC begins, place a complete buyout purchase order of all the world's supply of vuvuzela using your SciQuest account. Let the soccer rule, and the vuvuzelas could be used as a good corporate gift in the rewards program - just a thought from the WI aka the Mayor of Boston.
Great idea! Hopefully the city of Boston appreciates your wisdom and whistling.
Citizen Grant it is nobody's fault if "White Men" can't handle heat. Time for Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast to win it all
