New Matt & Kim "Cameras"

Matt & Kim won me (and the boys) over with their last album Grand. They're just so damn happy that you can't help but like them. Anywho, here's a link to their new track. It's not too shabby.

Emmys

Hooray for Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston for winning for Breaking Bad. Hooray for Mad Men. Hooray for Modern Family. All fantastic shows. Also, they should let Ricky Gervais hand out all of the awards. Here's a picture of Christina Hendricks and her boobs.

Book

Don't you hate it when you see a book and think, "I'll check it out on amazon when I get home," but then you can't remember the full title. Not that I need to buy any more books, but I like to throw stuff on my wishlist. Ah well.

Last night we went downtown for dinner and a few drinks with some friends only to get caught in the giant moto GP race festivities. Holy crap, there were motorcycles everywhere. Street after street of bikes parked and people milling around. It was coconutty, but made for a fun evening.

More awesomely stupid news

One out of five people believe President Obama is Muslim. First, if he is, who cares? Second, he says he's not so why not take his word for it? Is it going to take him eating a bacon wrapped pork chop at noon during Ramadan while reading the bible to get people off his back? Our country needs to quit worrying about stupid shit like this.

Logan as a wee lad

video

This feels like it was forever ago.

The eyes

As a boy, my father and I would have staring contests. The contests would go on until I lost my nerve and blinked. After my loss, my father would continue to stare at me for another two minutes just to prove a point. He would then blink slowly, savoring the moisture, clap me on the shoulder, and say, "One day son, one day." I asked him once about his gift. He stared off into the distance and replied, "The eyes of the determined man never dry." Then he gave me a little smile, tousled my hair, and walked away without another word.

Ready to dance!

Why hasn't anybody written a song called "There's a Pickle in my Pants (And it's ready to dance!)"?

Extremists

Here is an interesting link that Fronte sent to me in regards to the uproar about the NYC Islamic center. It lists a few Christian extremists/terrorists. As Fronte asked:

The question is would it be a problem if it was methodist, baptist, catholic, jewish or any other denomination ? If the answer is no then being islamic should not be a problem.

Beware of what you search for

So I was on gamepro.com and saw that a Wii game called "Enjoy Your Massage" was coming out and thought, "Wow, that game sounds retarded." It had no info when I clicked on the game link. I wanted to know what exactly happened in this game. I imagine you turn it on and it tells you techniques and whatnot, since nothing is better than a nice, candlelit massage while holding a Wiimote. Anyway, I went over to Amazon.com and typed in "enjoy your massage wii." No games came up, but this did. Luckily, you can delete items from your browsing history.

About that mosque in NYC

Wow people are getting all worked up about the Islamic center being built two blocks away from ground zero. Obama and Bloomberg both support it, but others (mostly republicans) are raising hell about it. They are saying it's insensitive. Hmm, maybe it's insensitive to say that. The assholes who flew those planes into the WTC were extremists who distort their religion. If you protest people's freedom of religion, guess what? You make more extremists. I say let these people build their mosque and worship. Quit slamming a whole religion for a handful of idiots.

Hey, remember the Dead Milkmen?

I had a friend in grade school who was really into these guys. Lindy had no idea what this song was, so here it is in all it's glory.

What what? Music videos

This is why MTV should still show videos. Boobs? Check. Nick Cave laser eyes? Check. Fat black guy doing a bug-eye thing? Check. Thanks Grinderman for a weird ass video.

Here's one from Menomena too. It's a street performer playing air drums to a pretty good tune. They were on Jimmy Fallon last night and sounded nice to these ears.

All is right again

EPL soccer action is back. Today Man Utd won the Community Shield 3-1 over Chelsea. YES!

I don't care what my Haitian friend says, I like club football so much more than World Cup.

Left behind bands

I saw this article on npr.org and thought it was kinda fun. It's about the music you once couldn't get enough of but now never listen too. Dave Matthews Band and Tori Amos were at the top of the list. I never liked Tori with her piano-bench-crotch-grinding music, but man alive, was I a rabid DMB fan for 10 or so years. Every summer we would go to multiple concerts and I owned all of the live cds even though they were essentially all the same. Hell, we even went to see them at the free concert in San Francisco (a fantastic surprise from Lindy). After Everyday came out, my interest started to wane. I started listening to more indie rock and DMB was slowly left behind. Now I only listen to them when I'm too busy in the lab to skip their songs on my ipod. I've sold most of the live albums and imports (oh, yes, I had the imports, but thankfully I refrained from Boyd's solo album) and I haven't listened to any of the studio cds in years, the exception being their latest, which got a few spins in the car and was bought more out of habit than desire for new material.

Then there are the bands that I still listen to after all these years. The White Stripes, Pearl Jam, U2, A Tribe Called Quest, etc. They all get turned up when they come on at work. Go figure. I think DMB may have died out for me due to the horns and just plain and simple burn out. When you see a band year after year and hear the same set list with minor variations year after year, it gets old. Plus, the people still clinging on to Dave and Co. are about as douchey as you can get. The fans have always been frat boys and annoying girls, but they were easier to ignore when I was in my early twenties. Not so much now.

What a bunch of idiots

There is a good shot that you know someone who thinks Obama wasn't born in the USA. A new poll says that 1 in 4 believe he was born in a foreign land. 25%! There are too many people who believe all the forwarded emails they receive. So to all of those folks, send me $1000 and I'll get you back $25million from the will of a Nigerian prince.
