Lockup

Nothing better than sitting on the couch on a Saturday night watching Lockup on msnbc where two guys have tattooed the whites of their eyes. One guy had all red and one guy went all blue. They did it with hypodermic needles. WTF?

Eff it

Two out of my three reactions went to shit and our registration system is down. Also, I'm tired from the previous two hours of enthusiasm. The day of unbridled enthusiasm is over. I'm no Whistling Indian.

YES!

Living a day with completely unbridled enthusiasm about everything is exhausting. But goddammit, I'm going to do it! WOOWOO!

The Social Network

Last night we finally got around to watching The Social Network. First, it was a really good movie. It's fascinating how someone can be so intelligent and turn an idea into a $25 billion company. I know the story was largely fictionalized in the non-lawyer settings, but the overall story is amazing.

The hardest part for me to wrap my head around is the money. Zuckerberg is a genius and is now worth $14 billion because of a website that everyone is on talking about what they had for dinner, who they're dating, if their day was good, more likely if their day was bad, and in general just messing about for hours. Granted, your life would be filled with people trying to get you to give them money, constantly trying to dig up dirt on you, and stresses that 99.99999% of the population won't face, but... BUT, having enough money where you and any offspring would never have to worry about anything that 99.99999% of the world worries about? Wow.

You wouldn't worry about bills, paying off your mortgage, saving for college, paying for a nice vacation, anything money related. We want to pay off our mortgage within the next 7-10 years. The amount we owe is 0.00087% of how much Mark Zuckerberg is worth. Again, wow.

It's really tough not be jealous of the intelligence it took to develop facebook and the wealth that comes from it. Nice work.

Wayne Rooney's strike

Check out this goal by Rooney from yesterday's Derby between Manchester United and Manchester City:

Nyquil in the morning

I accidentally took the nighttime sinus medicine this morning. It was in the generic Dayquil box, and after I swallowed the pills, I thought to meself, "Hey those were blue." Sure enough I took the nighttime meds. On top of that I slept like crap last night because of crazy sinus pain and our stupid dog having to pee at 4:30. So, I guess you could say I'm a bit out of it now. I'd say I even feel a bit drunk, but at least my headache is gone.

Bored

It's Sunday morning at 8:29. I'm bored. Lindy is asleep. The boys are playing Lego Star Wars. I've cleaned the kitchen. I've started laundry. I've been to sporcle, postsecret, and a dozen other websites. I could go read, but chances are once I pick up my book, one of the boys will yell for something. So here I am, sitting at the computer, writing a boring blog entry.

Weekend happenings:

Manchester United lost for the first time this season.

The Superbowl is today, go Packers.

We watched "Red" last night. It was ok, not great though.

Lindy and I designed a sculpture portraying what a hobo has planned for this week, took a picture, and sent it to her.

I swept off the empty lot and skated again, but this time the backs of the skates rubbed my legs raw. I was the Curt Schilling of empty lot iceskating.

Now, I'm going to go get the paper and drink some more coffee.

Cheers

Snow!

It's snowing. Again. After inches of ice all week, now we have at least and inch or two of new snow and it's still falling. It's supposed to keep up all day too. What if it melts just a little, then freezes over again? What if it's the dawn of a new ice age? What if sabretooth tigers and wooly mammoths come back?

It's not supposed to get above freezing for another week. Tuesday's high is 14! Wednesday is 16 and Thursday is a balmy 18. There is a good chance that schools will be cancelled again. They've already had four days in a row off. I wonder what the record is? If anyone can find that info, post it on the comments.

I wonder how many babies have been made from sheer boredom? Most kids in the US are born in September and October because of cold weather keeping people indoors and fucking. It's true. When it's warm out, you can go outside and do stuff. When it's cold outside, you stay inside and do it. Here's a sample conversation:

"Wanna go do something?"
"Nah, the weather sucks."
"Then take off those pants and do me."
"Yeah, ok, why not."

Nine months later, babies are popping out of vaginas.

So what's everyone else up to? Why not post it on the comments if you're bored? That'll kill at least two minutes.

Things I saw at work

A guy was dressed like Troy Polamalu complete with wig, jersey, pants, and cleats.

A duck frozen in the pond. Well, we thought it was a duck. When we walked out to the pond to look it turned out to be a leafy stick.

I need a Zamboni

At work a few people were talking about kids skating on their lawns, so when I got home, I busted out the hockey skates and went to it. I tried the common area by our house, but it was too bumpy. Then I went to the empty lot next to our house and got to skate on nice flat ice. A few spots were thin, but I could go down the lot and into my neighbor's back yard. It's been years since I've had the skates on so my legs and feet are killing me, but holy crap it was fun.

Phil says early spring, but Jack and Meg say we're done

Happy Groundhog Day!

Unhappy day for White Stripes fans. On the Third Man website, Jack and Meg posted that they are officially over and that no new recordings or live performances will happen. If it were any other band I'd say they were making it up and might come back in a year, but not these guys.

Ice part ii

The weathermen and women got it right this time. It's icy. So here I am at home, doing a bit of work on SciFinder, because a little ice can't stop the science train. ALL ABOARD, WHOO, WHOO! Wait, what?

As for the ice, I spread a ton of ice melt salty stuff on the driveway and listened to it snap and crackle. We're supposed to get nailed with the big storm this afternoon, so hopefully the layer of salt will help a bit. If it's as bad as they say, it could be power outages, more at home time, and possible cannibalism. The news makes it sound like the end of times. As I told a friend earlier, I've read many a book about post-apocalypse Earth and whether it be zombie hordes, global thermal nuclear warfare (would you like to play a game?), drought and famine, perpetual darkness due to an asteroid collision kicking up debris, or sheets of ice covering the land, I think I can make it.
