Daniels defunding Planned Parenthood

I give up on any faith in people's common sense. Mitch Daniels is actually going to sign a bill that will take away $3 million a year in federal funding from PP because they perform abortions. Damn all the other services they provide. I don't really understand how the state can take away federal money and also seemingly go against the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision. He's doing this solely because he's going to throw his hat in the Presidential race and wants the hard-core right vote. Playing up to hot button issues is the only thing these guys know. I'm sick of America.

Ed Lover Dance!!

Every day after school I used to come home and watch Yo! MTV Raps. This was back when they'd show music videos on music television. No one had remotes for cable tv. You had a box with a ton of buttons on it to change the channel. It had a long cord that stretched to the tv. If you got lucky, you could sometimes push two buttons down at the same time and get Cinemax on Friday nights. Yo! MTV Raps and Friday After Dark! Ahhhhh, simpler times.

Royal wedding

I watched it this morning. That's right.

Goodnight Ned

ODB

Champions League

We still have the second leg to go, but it looks like it will probably be a Manchester United - Barcelona final. United better practice with only ten men as the refs will probably favor the Spanish side and hand out red cards like candy. I've overheard people complaining about how Sir Alex must be paying the refs for calls, but Barca gets a ridiculous amount of calls. In the last five games against Barca, Real Madrid has had a man sent off. It's madness. MADNESS ME LADDIE!

My ears are tired

Man oh man am I ready for this Franklin Township referendum vote to be over. I'm tired of talking and being talked to about it. I'm tired of seeing "vote no" signs. I'm tired of good Christian/Catholic/not-too-bright Republicans voting against kids and teachers. Let's vote people's jobs away. Neat. Then, in a few years, let's start bitching about why our kids aren't performing well.

How sad...

This year the award for fiction went to Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad. Luckily, I have this on my Kindle already waiting to be read.

Punch! In the face!

It's been one of those days where if I had the chance to jack someone right in the face I would. The day started out ok. Laundry was done early, sheets were changed, kitchen was clean, and there weren't any other chores. Then we went to Logan's soccer game which was awesome. We won 2-1 and all of my kids played well and hard. Then the frustration came whilst watching Connor's game. Holy shit! First, the ref stopped the clock every time the ball went out. YOU DON'T STOP THE CLOCK IN SOCCER! I SAID GODDAMN! So a game that is supposed to take 32 minutes ended up going almost an hour. I'm not exaggerating. It was fucking ridiculous. Neither of the coaches said anything and the last time I saw a parent say something to a ref it almost started a brawl. So I just sat there watching and looking at the clock and wanting to scream. Second, Connor's team has two kids who don't give two shits about playing. One will kick the ball and then stand there. Seriously, he won't take another step until the ball goes out. Then there's another kid who is just a horrible human being. Yes, I'm saying a five year old is a horrible human being. If you have never felt the urge to punch a kid in the face, come to one of our games and have a life changing experience. On the bright side, Connor scored a goal which was great. Now, I'm having an icy cold Sam Adams and eating some trail mix.

Record Store Day part 2

Jess and I set out at 8:30 this morning to grab our vinyl goodies. We started out at Luna and were 15th in line. They had dick. I got a Pearl Jam 7" and the Black Angels "Phosgene Nightmare 10"" there. We got back to the car and decided to go to Indy CD and Vinyl, which is where we should've started in the first place. It was my fault for the Luna decision and on top of that, Jess hates Luna, but humored me. Anywho, I picked up the two White Stripes 7"s, a different Black Angels vinyl, the new TV on the Radio, and Fleet Foxes. I haven't had a chance to listen to anything as I just got back from kids soccer, but the experience was fun.

Highlights:

We talked to several pretty swell people. One guy named Tom gave me his extra copy of one of the White Stripes singles and he had the Karen Elson clear, rose petal 7". It is pretty damn cool. If I had trusted Jess, I would have it. I suck.

We made fun of a weird guy who was sitting in his van across from Luna just staring. He had a magnificent moustache.

I came up with a pretty awesome pick up line for the ladies. Go up with a pen in hand and ask the lady if she needs it, when she says no, tell her she will when she writes down her number for you. Feel free to use it.

Saying, "Hey, you were at Luna too."

I got to hang out with one of my favorite people for a few hours.

Record Store Day

I turn into a child when it comes to music. New records, discovering a new band, going to concerts, all of these things make me grin like an idiot. At shows if I see the artist walking around, I turn into a little kid asking for autographs or shaking hands or making awkward small talk. When I get a new record in the mail, I hurry back inside to open it and marvel at it's beauty. Tomorrow could have me peeing my pants. It's Record Store Day. Third Man is releasing quite a few singles tomorrow and if I'm lucky I might get a few. Karen Elson's single is on clear vinyl with rose petals pressed into it. The White Stripes reissues are swirly. If I'm unlucky, I will be getting them on boring old black vinyl some other time. The weather is supposed to be cold and rainy, so I'm hoping the sane will stay at home. The store opens at ten. I want to be there at nine, but a certain hobo might not like that too much, haha.

So rong Marty McFry

China has banned anything involving time travel from being on television. No more Back to the Future, Quantum Leap, some Star Trek movies, Superman III, Bill and Ted's, The Time Machine, Prisoner of Azkaban, the one Phineas and Ferb, Charlie Chaplin (remember the lady on the cell phone?), and who knows what else. Would Groundhog Day count? It's not really time-travel, but it's playing with time. If I can't see a Back to the Future marathon every other weekend, then China is not for me.

Rock for Riley VII - Matt and Kim

My legs are still a bit tired. My ears are still a bit sore. Who's to blame? Why Matt and Kim that's who. If you ever have a chance to see them live, do it. So much energy is thrown out and so much fun is had by all. They played a solid mix from their three albums starting with "Yea Yeah" and ending with "Daylight." Throughout the show they threw in old school hip-hop songs including "The 900 Number (aka the beat to the Ed Lover dance and "Let Me Clear My Throat")", "Just a Friend", and "Apache." Throw in balloons and songs like "Lessons Learned", "Cameras", and "Block after Block" and you have yourself a party. Plus the show made over $14000 for Riley.

Tuesday

Have you ever had one of those days where you find yourself broiling with murderous rage on the inside for no legitimate reason while trying desperately (and unsuccessfully) to maintain a smile and cheery voice on the outside?

The day was long. The tickle in my throat is still there. It was cold and I had to coach soccer. I had a dad trying to talk to the team while I was talking. First Egypt, then Libya, now my soccer team. God, I'm glad that tomorrow will find me sitting in a bar with a cold Boddington's and a Haitian.

9 days

After a full nine days of being away from flasks, chemicals, safety goggles, and labcoats, tomorrow will find me back at work playing mad scientist. What has happened this week? We all went to the aquarium and an old time ice cream shop. We dropped the boys off at my moms and went to a anniversary getaway in Batesville which was more relaxing than we could have hoped for. India won the cricket World Cup. Manchester United pulled further into the lead. I finished reading Dead Man's Walk and started reading Geek Love. The XBOX 360 froze a few more times and then started acting nice again. I bought a USB stick and transferred all of the data on to it in case the red ring of death comes back. We got a new ottoman/coffee table. That's about it.
